The Inshore Diploma (Förarintyg in English)
In two days this course will give you basic knowledge in navigation, seamanship and safety. You can also add on the practical boat training as an option. Here you will try your new skills in real situations.
Kursbeskrivning
The Inshore Diploma (in Swedish Förarintyg) allows you to take the helm onboard! This course provides basic knowledge in navigation, seamanship and safety. The course consists of two full days and you can chose practical boat training during the course as an option. Learn the basics of boating during two amazing full days. If you chose boat practice with mooring and navigation exercises, it will be performed during the course on the second day. In an efficient and fast pace, we study navigation, collision regulations and safety at sea. During the practical boat training you will try your new skills in real situations and much will fall into place. An Inshore Yacht Master Diploma shows that you have the basic theoretical knowledge and ability to operate a pleasure boat inshore and in coastal waters. The course ends with an exam of the NFB's Förarintyg. When the exam is done, hopefully you will have a big smile on your face and your new certificate in your hand: The Inshore Yachtmaster Diploma (Förarintyg).
Starting from February 1, 2025, all exams for recreational courses will be conducted digitally. Please note that the new exams will only be offered in Swedish.
- Knowledge of collision regulations and preventing collisions at sea
- Knowledge of safety at sea and seamanship
- Basic navigation skill
- Knowledge of how to use a compass,
- Knowledge how to calculate speed, time, distance and to do positioning
- Knowledge how to do knots and how to tie up you boat correct
- Knowledge how to to find a known position and latitude and longitude.

Day 1
9 am -6 pm - TheoryDay 2
9 am -12 am - Practical boat training for those who have chosen this option (Not a requerment/ not always avalible)
1.00 pm – 5. 00 pm Theory
5.00 pm –aprox. 7.30 pm - Exam for Inshore Diploma -
This is what you need for the course:
- Litterature: Course book, "International Certificate of Competency Sail Boat Coastal”, Exercise chart 931 or 616
- Tools: Divider, protractor and nautical ruler
The study package is distributed on the first course day.

The exam starts at 5 pm the second/last day of the course.
Starting from February 1, 2025, all exams for recreational courses will be conducted digitally. Please note that the new exams will only be offered in Swedish.
You must purchase the exam on the NFB website no later than two days before the course starts. The exam costs 325 SEK and is valid for 12 months.
On the Exam Day:

Bring a laptop or tablet to take the exam.

The exam fee of 325 SEK is payable via Swish to the exam supervisor at the exam session or in connection with booking the course.

Don't forget to bring valid identification!
The exam is graded digitally immediately after completion. If you pass, your Inshore Diploma will be registered with the Swedish Council for Education and Training of Yachtsmen (NFB).
