The two day Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma. In this course you learn more about offshore navigation, boating in bad weather and at night. During two amazing full days in an efficient and fast pace, we study coastal and offshore navigation, collision regulations and safety at sea, navigation with the aid of lighthouses.
This course provides basic knowledge in coastal and offshore navigation, night sailing including navigation with beacons and lighthouses, seamanship and safety in rough weather and much more.
The Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma gives you the right to skipper any boat larger than 12 meters length and 4 meter width on Swedish pleasure vessels anywhere in the world. Most other countries also accept the Swedish Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma to skipper big pleasurecrafts registered in their country for example Greece, Croatia, Turkey and many more. The course is based on NFB's instructions, and we study collision regulations, light and night sailning. preventing collisions at sea, navigationmarks, lighthouses, how to use a compass, calculating speed, time, distance and positioning, to find a known position and latitude and longitude. Offshore and foul weather boating. Participants are required to study at home between the lectures.
Before this course you have to have completed the Inshore Diploma (In Swedish: "Förarintyg") and you have to do the practical boat training in daylight or in darkness before you can get the Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma.
You can, after completed exam, also apply for the international certificate ICC 24 m power and sail certificate for an extra fee. A Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma shows that you have the basic theoretical knowledge and ability to operate a large pleasureboat offshore and in darkness and rough weather.
The exam of the NFB's Kustskepparintyg is a couple of days after the last course day (usually a Wednesday).
Starting from February 1, 2025, all exams for recreational courses will be conducted digitally. Please note that the new exams will only be offered in Swedish.

No formal prerequisits. You may join the course from the year you turn 12 years of age.

Day 2, 9 am - 5 pm theory
There will be boatpractise on one of the days, between 6 pm-9 pm

This is what you need for the course:
- Litterature: Course book, "International Certificate of Competency Sail Boat Coastal”, Exercise chart 931 or 616
- Tools: Divider, protractor and nautical ruler
The study package is distributed on the first course day.

The exam is the last day of the course. In Gothenburg the test is the first wednsday after the course.

Before the Exam:
You must purchase the exam on the NFB website no later than two days before the course starts. The exam costs 325 SEK and is valid for 12 months.Please note that you must have Boat Practid Day or Night registered with NFB before you order your exam.
On the Exam Day:
- Bring a laptop or tablet to take the exam.
- The exam fee of 325 SEK is payable via Swish to the exam supervisor at the exam session or in connection with booking the course.
- Don't forget to bring valid identification!
The exam is graded digitally immediately after completion. If you pass, your Coastal Diploma will be registered with the Swedish Council for Education and Training of Yachtsmen (NFB).
